Realistic painting expresses not only the form and color of the subject, but also the atmosphere and feeling that permeates it.
This exhibition is organized by season, interpreting the various signs of the four seasons hidden within the realistic expressions created by the artists.
In recent times, the balance of the seasons has become ambiguous, and we are often troubled by unseasonable temperatures. Spring flowers, summer air, autumn harvest, winter stillness… why not once again feel the changing seasons through these realistic paintings that even capture the atmosphere?

“I mostly paint portraits, but I’ve never thought of still lifes and landscapes separately; I see them all as part of nature,” the artist says. Since moving to a place near the sea, the artist says he sometimes feels a sense of becoming one with nature in the rich natural environment. The muted colors after the sun sets on the beach and the beautiful hues have faded. The sounds of insects. The unique smell before it starts to rain—these subtle impressions of nature, felt through the five senses, lead to new painting concepts.

Toshihiro Ohata, “Presence – Requiem,” 2020
This work depicts a ginkgo tree over 100 years old, standing on the artist’s property. In
December 2019, the artist was struck by the awe-inspiring sight of the tree towering over the landscape, its leaves ablaze with yellow light shining through the clouds, and began creating this work. Shortly after he began working on it, the COVID-19 pandemic spread globally, claiming many lives. The artist said that as he painted each yellow leaf, they seemed like souls, and he completed the painting with a prayer for the repose of souls, while simultaneously expressing his hope that humanity would overcome this disease and that the future would be brighter.
